www.bradgurney.com is finally up and running with some work and some content. It's been a longtime coming and i've been meaning to get around to it for say the last 3 years but eventually i did get around to it thanks to a lightweight CMS called stacey. Stacey and i are very happy together and she helped me make my dreams of an online portfolio so simple... check it out if your in the same boat as i was... If you don't know CSS to save your life and don't want some tacky looking website built from your html skills you learnt in year 10 IT classes then stacey is the way to go so easy and it's all based on directories... just drop you pieces into the appropriate directory and the stacey intuitively adds them to your slide show style gallery for that project...

Stacey seriously made life much easier online... and with a bit more tweaking of the design it has the potential of a great graphic designer's website especially with the simple slide show style gallery with the lag of a flash site...

Hi guys haven't posted in ages... thought i'd post on something that seem to bug me every time i here about it and that is the concept of bidding for clients.

If there's one thing i'm strictly against it's bidding for work it seems that more and more bidding sites are coming into existence every week. freelancers everywhere are losing work due to lower quality designs getting chosen over good quality designs due to un-skilled 'designers' charging a pittance for work. It's bad for both clients and designers alike. clients are getting poor design advice and skilled artists are loosing potential clients because of the lack luster work being produced for next to nothing costs. Also freelancers are having to produce concepts before being paid, so depending on how many bids there are a design could easily spend say 10 hours designing something and then they don't get chosen for the job. That 10 hours which could be easily spent on other genuine work, for genuine clients. Although innovative the internet and it's bidding sites could be leading to the downfall of the client/designer relationship... designers can barely describe there work or build a relationship with the client which can sometimes even lead to that magic within a final piece. That bond between client and designer is a spectacular way of putting something personal into a design making what we do an artform not some graphical cliche.

i've learnt that in order to live and do the things you love, you need a steady cash flow. Something i have been without since the begining of year 12... so today marks the begining of a a new era for BRAD GURNEY GRAPHIC DEISGN.... an era where clients aren't friends in need of a quick and cheap design fix... first order of businessi is a flyer to get a clinent body happening then business cardss. some might think it odd to do a flyer first but cards can come next... i need clients first and the only way to get clients is to offer them something they want... CHEAP BUSINESS CARDS... so here goes. wish me luck ;)

it's a sad life when your clients call you more than your friends....

however it would be even more sad if i didn't have any friends but at least i have clients

here's part of a current job involving a web header for a party hire directory online.... other good stuff but too much effort right now to convert it to RGB so another time will have to do....

YES!!! i finally stole back my logo form uni in a way not unlike that of mission impossible 1. After working on it a bit from the rough lines it was i have come up with a first draft and after issues with the letter d and stem lengths are fixed i feel i will definitely have something that sticks... anyway i best get back to my Design in Context Assignment as the tute teacher wants the draft by tomorrow.... hehe like thats gonna happen.

I have some sweet news
while i was bored at uni watching everybody learn how to use the type tool in photoshop
i wandered into illustrator and started messing around which I have been doing a lot lately
and i think i might be getting close to a permanent logo I'm really liking what I'm seeing.
ad totally looking forward to the outcome only wish i brought a usb to uni that day so i could bring home the work and do it this weekend. but things are looking good then once I've got my shredding logo i can do some sweet artwork for a business card (I've been in a foil mood lately so look forward to finished result of that) and then finally onto my website and some advertising should be good... will post so low res copies of the logo so far in the coming week.

for now have a look at some more photo's take for my 2nd photography assignment

hello blogosphere visiters.

on my many hours on the train today i was able to do some maths

i worked out that on a monday i am on public transport for just under three hours

just so that i can sit in on a 1 hour lecture where i don't learn anything....

but hey might as well go its not like i have any sleep to catch up on....

thought i'd give you something to look at for a change

this probably my most recent work to date.. it's the concept for the new cube youth logo

i just have some symmetry issues i'm not happy with then it'll be ready for use one i've got the updated .EPS + .AI ready...

Got heaps of jobs on line for church... so expect more samples of work... will try to get my portfolio up soon...

the word WOOT just doesn't cut it anymore... i just had my interview for curtin and was told that if they could they would skip me to the 2nd or 3rd year... they were pretty amazed at the graphic stylings of Brad Gurney the 17 year old designing kid.... just thought i'd update you all on that little exciting part of my life.... keep tuned an more content will be posted soon.

it's official i stuck to my blog i don't know who i'm writing this to as no one other then myself has been on this blog. however as this is the sequel to my first entry it dawns on me that it has to be better then the first.... so i figured the best way to do that was to show you some of my work.Concept for the Northshore Church website whih will be coming to an internet near you hopefully this summer... (Northshore church is full of the coolest cats this side of the galaxy)

I finally got a blog as a designer i should have had a running blog years ago my excuse is poor time management. yes i am a designer and much of my blog will be design related so theres the heads up and heres the plug.
